· You must be registered to vote in Florida in order to vote in the General Election on November 2, 2010. October 4, 2010 is the last day to register to vote with the Supervisor of Elections.
· HB No. 759 in 2010 changed the number of Board Members elected in the General Election from two out of five to four out of five. The conversion will take place in the 2012 and 2014 General Elections.
· Northern’s enabling legislation- Chapter 2005-302. Laws of Florida-was changed in 2005 to allow two of the five Board members to be elected by popular vote.
· Beginning in 2012, Seats No. 4 and 5 will be elected by popular vote in the November General Election. Also at that time, the requirements to qualify for those seats will change so that members elected to those seats must be residents of the District, must own, or have a beneficial interest in an entity that owns, real property within the District, and must be electors of the District. Beginning in 2014, Seats No. 2 and 3 will have similar qualifying requirements.
· The term of office is four years.
· You must file your official qualifying paperwork if you intend to run for a seat with the Supervisor of Elections office. They will provide you with all of the necessary information, including he deadlines for qualifying and filing.
