Introduction Northern provides a wide range of services for its constituents which include:
• Storm Water Control
• Drought Protection • Water Quality Control
• Utilities Construction
• Environmental Services
• Landscaping
• Roadway Construction
• Street Lights
• Maintenance of canals, waterways and lakes
As a service provider, Northern is subject to all development requirements of the local government in which a unit is located. Northern works closely with other agencies such as the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), Seacoast Utility Authority, Palm Beach County, the City of West Palm Beach and the Town of Jupiter.
All revenues are generated from special assessments levied against only those lands where service is provided. The special assessments are included on landowners’ property tax bills and are collected by the Palm Beach County Tax Collector. Northern is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors. Three Supervisors are elected by the landowners within the boundaries of the service area. Beginning in 2006, two Board Members are elected by popular vote in the General Election.
